Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)Hopefully, you are looking for a 11.6 inc netbook because of school or as a business travel aid.
For starters:
This netbook looks great, nice eye candy with a cool inner detailed keyboard pattern. The Nile platform, from AMD, is great. It can handle youtube 720p very smoothly. Handles aero very nicely. The sharpness of the screen is awesome, much better than my HP DV5T and Eee 1005ha i own.
In my opinion, the most important features one is looking in a netbook are the battery life and the keyboard/mousepad.
The keyboard is indeed better than my 1005ha 10.2 inch Eee PC. it is advertised as full size, but it is not. if you have big hands, i would say stay away. if you can type easily, or at least with a good degree of confidence with 10.2 inch netbooks you would feel much better with this one. Honestly, the keyboard size is almost a full. The only full size is the inner part of the keyboard, meaning the letter section. the rest of if, including enter, F keys, tab, shift, are shorten. still very good feel to the keyboard. THe only downturn is the space bar; it is small and sometimes it doesnt get actually space out. The mousepad is large and it feels like there is no much drag. very good in my opinion. i like it better than the draggy HP Dv5t i own.
Battery:
I would stay away from this netbook if you are looking for a 5+ hr on battery. actually i can even get it pass 4..... i tested the battery both at full performance, with the lcd screen at 50% constant streaming hulu for 3hr and 34m and installation of Ms Office 2007. i had 13% left in the battery when i decided to plug it back in. I know, if i would have just browse the internet, without videos and too much flash activity i could have gotten more juice out of it.
Toshiba includes an eco mode (to save battery life). Honestly, it sucks. The eco mode decreses the performance of everything, including the wifi, processor, video. The battery lasted for 3hr and 40 m with a painful stream of hulu at not even full screen. On regular mode, or with eco off, hulu was fine at full screen 480p and youtube 720p was also perfect.
I presume that for notetaking it would actually go for 4 1/2 hrs. that is without having too much internet activity. Something like a lecture in school or so. The battery does such tho. Better go with a Asus Eee with 8hr+. (at least my netbook does close to 8 1/2.
The Processor
The Athlon II Neo is way better than the Atoms, at least the N270 i have on the Eee. I do not regret having the Neo in this, but AMD has to work with the battery life in this. According to one of the many annoying blotware toshiba utilities, there is one that allows you to see the power consumption of the netbook. It was doing around 15w.
Decision:
Dont buy it if you are looking for a full day computing. The main reason to buy a netbook is pretty much for word processing, browse the internet, and battery!. This would be a waste of money if you are looking into those. Dont get me wrong, i like the netbook a lot. especially because it allows HD playback. but if you are a college student like me, get something that will allow you to take note in all your classes. After use:
The battery performs much better no.. kinda odd. I get over 6 hours now, it wont give you a full day computing but, you have to give some to obtain performance; really good for the money. I am absolutely happy with this Netbook. The HDMI, performance of the Radeon graphics, the AMD Neo, just makes it the right netbook for traveling, and schooling (my situation).
