(More customer reviews)This is a great boom for studio work. You could take it on location but it is a heavy thing to lug around. Easily gets my hairlight 10 feet up in the air and is very solid. The optional wheels (Avenger A9000) are nice to have too, even if they cost about half the price of the stand itself.

(More customer reviews)I bought this item with the idea of supporting a Visatec 1600 Monolight (6 lbs 13oz / 3.1kg) with a midsize softbox. Since the included counterweight is 6.6 pounds it seemed like a good alternative.
Pros:
1.- This boom arm is large and looks solid.
2.- The counter weight is very good and easy to attach.
3.- The tilter bracket rotates in different angles and has different diameters for attaching to a variety of studs.
4.- Extends to 6.5 feet.
Cons:
1.- Tilter Bracket is made of plastic.
2.- There is a lack of information on particular specs, such a how much weight it can hold.
My experience:
After trying to set it up with the monolight mentioned above, my concern was the weakest part of this item, the -all plastic- Tilter Bracket, that started to squeak a bit when I attached the flash and counterweight.
I went the Westcott website to find out more about the uses or limitations of this item and found very little information, like no max load weight. I guess that if we use such a particular item for professional purposes there should be more technical information.
Perhaps something to add is that Westcott website advertises this as a good boom arm for hairlight, no more; Amazon might want to add this info so that we, the customers are more aware of the real uses of this Westcott Boom Arm.
Bottom line is: if you want to use it not fully extended and with a small monolight this maybe a good purchase for you, but if you want to add a heavier monolight, and extend it to its full capacity, probably you need to research for other alternatives.
I would only recommend it for what it's been advertised by Westcott website.
