(More customer reviews)This is a rock solid grip system. ePhoto Studio thought of everything in the design of this product. There are three unique sections (excluding the grip arm accessory holder) that are assembled together into one complete grip stand. The three riser sections of the middle part of the stand are supported by springs to add protection to the overall unit should someone loosen a section without holding firmly to the pole. I've had that happen before when someone who wasn't familiar with production offer assistance during equipment break down. They simply loosened one of the sections and the pole came slamming down. This product offers a bit of protection to the unit. I also like the soft grip in the middle section as well. This comes in hand should your hands be oily or sweaty - especially during a hot afternoon shoot outside or something. Wet hands on a smooth metal surface do not provide a good grip. Thankfully, they thought of this as well by providing a soft grip. Simply put, this is a solid unit with a lot to offer!

(More customer reviews)This is a great boom for studio work. You could take it on location but it is a heavy thing to lug around. Easily gets my hairlight 10 feet up in the air and is very solid. The optional wheels (Avenger A9000) are nice to have too, even if they cost about half the price of the stand itself.

(More customer reviews)I bought myself a cheap background kit and then managed to break one of the stands using a 9ft seamless outside with no assistant. I looked at a variety of kits but then decided that while the stands sucked the bar and case that came in the kit were nice. So I decided to but two of these and mount the bar to these. They are very nice, high quality, well thought out stands. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because it isn't the most stable of stands. The base is not all that wide and I wouldn't trust putting it up too high. Like I said though it's super well made and well thought out, plus making it more stable would mean making it heavier and that may or may not be what you want.

Westcott 3.9' to 6.5' Adjustable Chrome Boom Arm with 6.6 lb. Counter Weight Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this item with the idea of supporting a Visatec 1600 Monolight (6 lbs 13oz / 3.1kg) with a midsize softbox. Since the included counterweight is 6.6 pounds it seemed like a good alternative.
Pros:
1.- This boom arm is large and looks solid.
2.- The counter weight is very good and easy to attach.
3.- The tilter bracket rotates in different angles and has different diameters for attaching to a variety of studs.
4.- Extends to 6.5 feet.
Cons:
1.- Tilter Bracket is made of plastic.
2.- There is a lack of information on particular specs, such a how much weight it can hold.
My experience:
After trying to set it up with the monolight mentioned above, my concern was the weakest part of this item, the -all plastic- Tilter Bracket, that started to squeak a bit when I attached the flash and counterweight.
I went the Westcott website to find out more about the uses or limitations of this item and found very little information, like no max load weight. I guess that if we use such a particular item for professional purposes there should be more technical information.
Perhaps something to add is that Westcott website advertises this as a good boom arm for hairlight, no more; Amazon might want to add this info so that we, the customers are more aware of the real uses of this Westcott Boom Arm.
Bottom line is: if you want to use it not fully extended and with a small monolight this maybe a good purchase for you, but if you want to add a heavier monolight, and extend it to its full capacity, probably you need to research for other alternatives.
I would only recommend it for what it's been advertised by Westcott website.
