Super Talent Pico-C 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive STU8GPCS (Silver) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I got this memory stick a short while ago, been using it normally and quite happy with its size and speed. But yesterday the most incredible thing happened. I had forgotten it in the pocket of my shorts. I had put the shorts through a 30 minute wash cycle at 40c. Finding that a stain on the shorts wasn't fully gone, again I put the shorts (with the stick in them) through a 90 minutes cycle at 60c. Remembering the stick much later, I found it caught in the washing machine's rubber gasket. I left it overnight to fully dry, today I have been using the stick normally. All the data was there, and it still reads and writes as usual. Its like it never went through the washing machine!! AMAZING..

Sony Micro Vault Click 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive with Virtual Expander USM8GL Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)These new "Micro Vaults" by Sony are fun, attractive, and ultimately, usable flash drives. Sizes range from 1 to 16 Gb, and two formats, standard and "turbo" speed, are available for many of these sizes. The "turbo" version costs more than the equivalently sized "standard" version, but at higher storage sizes. the higher transfer speed of the "tubo" version is desirable because the sheer amount of time required to transfer 16 Gb of data to a stick can be daunting.
The new spring-loaded design of thee units is highly functional. The design keeps the metal USB "prong" protected when not in use, and simply grabbing the device to pull it out of the computer into which it has been placed engages the internal spring, which then retracts the plug automatically upon removal. Build quality feels generally good, particularly considering the fact that Sony has reduced the oftentimes outrageous prices they ask for such accessories. The units have an LED light that flashes through a prismatic lens at the end of the device which is a nice touch to the overall design of the device. I own two of these (a 4 Gb and an 8 Gb version), and am delighted with them both. Check out the 16 Gb versions if you want even more space, but remember the issues surrounding transfer speed and the amount of time required to move that amount of data
Pros
1. Highly functional spring loaded function obviates need for a cap
2. Visually attractive design
3. Transfer speed acceptably fast
4. Available in 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 Gb variants
Cons
1. Price is a bit high compared to other brands
2. "Turbo" edition adds even more cost

EMTEC S450 Secure Slider 4 GB High Speed USB Flash Drive with AES EKMMD4GS450AES (Black and Chrome) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I wanted a USB flash memory drive that had some form of encryption and password protection, and I wasn't willing to spend hundreds of dollars on an "enterprise" unit for business, so I bought this one about a month ago. I'd had a U3 enabled flash drive previously for this reason and HATED the U3 thing. After doing a lot of research, I picked this one. This unit has a very simple, almost primitive interface (on a virtual CD partition) called "USB Disk Pro" or "Lock" (as called in the materials that come with it) for locking and unlocking the contents of the rest of the drive, which when locked is presumably encrypted until it is accessed via password. Password can be up to 16 characters. You can also enter a 32 character "hint" for remembering the password. Upon entering the correct password, you can change the password, or disable the password, though you still have to go through the software before accessing the rest of the drive.
Pros--
It seems secure, at least for a consumer-level product. If you don't enter a correct password in SIX attempts, it automatically formats (erases) the entire contents of the drive. I tested it myself and it does work that way. So no "brute force" attacks are possible. Manufacturer claims you could not access the encrypted data even if the drive was taken apart.
Once you have cleared entering the password, it seems very fast in data transfer, at least compared to my old USB drive.
Seemed like a VERY good value for the money (mine is the 8 GB one).
I think it's attractive if you care about that kind of thing.
Cons--
As another reviewer noted, it does indeed take some time for the darn thing to load up with the password protection interface, and then to get you into your data after you've entered your password.
Mechanically, the slider mechanism seems flimsy, though I've had no problems yet. I'd be reluctant to slide it many many times a day.
There is a TINY opening on the back edge of the drive that would NOT be appropriate for using on a key-ring. It's too small and probably would be easily broken. It is ONLY well-suited for a very fine woven lanyard cord, like the one that came with my old USB drive, so I will post a photo to show this, since I think others would want to know before they buy. They DID NOT include any kind of lanyard or any other accessories.
This isn't really the product's fault, but I wish the program that locks the unit allowed the user to put personal information such as an email or phone number that would be visible upon plugging in the device. This way, if it was lost, the owner might get it back while still keeping the data within secure.OVERALL, I'm very pleased with this drive and would readily purchase another despite a few down-sides.

Transcend JetFlash V95 Classic 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive TS8GJFV95C (Chrome/Black) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)All in the space of one weekend. This sucker is TINY, about the size of a junebug. The lanyard hole was too small for my keychain, so I was freehanding it and I'll be damned if I can find it now. Worked great while I had it though. It will probably turn up in the wash, which is okay because my previous USB flash drives have survived the laundry no problem. Worked fine, minus one star because the lanyard hole really should be a bit bigger.
TWO WEEKS LATER: Found it in the wash, as expected. Works fine, though. Drilled out the lanyard hole to make it slightly larger. Now have it on the keychain. Cute and elegant.

(More customer reviews)This drive is VERY Slow. Writing takes 10 minutes to write a 600MB file and the read speed is not much better. I have several flash drives-4gb 8gb and 2 16gb. These are all roughly this same read write speed. Way faster than this one, so I dont think the capacity of 32gb is the reason for the poor performance. Also its very wide making it impossible to use where the usb ports are close together. I would not recommend this one
