The cover is actually neon orange with the gold color painted over it, so the neon orange color is what people see after the paint peels off. The cover itself does it a great job of protecting my phone, so I definitely suggest the brand, but if you're looking for a gold iphone cover, look elsewhere, because this cover won't stay gold for long.
