Outdoor Waterproof Wireless/wired Ip Camera with Night Vision and Motion Detection Alarm, Apple Mac and Windows compatible, Silver. Review

Outdoor Waterproof Wireless/wired Ip Camera with Night Vision and Motion Detection Alarm, Apple Mac and Windows compatible, Silver.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this camera. There are all kinds of cameras out there but very few that are designed and hardened to outdoor use. This camera is much larger than I expected, it's bigger around than a soda can and about 50% longer than a soda can too. It looks very robust. It has a lot of features and configurations so that you can set it up the way you want it.
One thing I've found in dealing with IP cameras is that the software is terrible. The software for this one actually looks decent though I don't use it. I only use the software that came with it to do the initial configuration. I use a program called "Blue Iris" for my installations and I can highly recommend it. The nice thing about Blue Iris is that it will work with many different cameras, from $10 web-cams to top end IP cameras. This allows you to add "views" to the system as you can afford it and as you find bargains on cameras. It's very nice to not have to spend more on a camera than you need to and can integrate it into your system with minimal hassle. Blue Iris controls all the motion detecting, provides web access, etc. This is very important if you have a real firewall with limited node access to the WAN. Instead of 10 cameras (which would be nodes...) using up licenses there's only the one on the machine that's actually controlling everything. If you're creating a surveillance system it's well worth the $50 bucks for the program.
The focus and infrared on this camera are absolutely fine. I have the one I just bought watching my garage door on the alley behind my building. No problems so far with wireless networking. I did upgrade the firmware as soon as I got the camera, before deploying it. If you're not comfortable with things like upgrading firmware I suggest you buy a pre-configured wired system and have all that fun pulling wires 'cause you're not going to have any fun at all with building your own system.
I can't speak to other people's experience with this camera but from my perspective it's a great camera. The only reason I bothered to write this review is that I didn't think it was getting a fair evaluation from the previous review. If you're into this kind of thing, this is a great device and I'll be buying more of them for exterior views.
Oh, one thing I should mention. You're not going to get the same kind of studio quality HD picture from a surveillance camera in this price range as you would from a $1000+ camera, it's just not going to happen and it's unrealistic to expect that. This camera gives a picture and records video that is more than ample for checking on "things that go bump in the night" or for giving a video to the cops to identify the bad guy(s). I want my surveillance system to allow me to see what's happening without sticking my head out the door and to give me evidence if I need it. This camera is more than suited for those purposes. It's a very fine camera and the quality is excellent.
UPDATE: I posted some snapshots pulled from video frames shot by this camera so people could judge for themselves. I don't know when Amazon will put them on the page but I did upload them so if they're not visable check back in a day or two.
For the price I can find no fault in this camera at all. Time will tell how long it lasts, how durable it is, etc. For right now I'm very happy with it and it gives me a 24 hour view where running a wire is just not possible.
UPDATE: Five months of service on this camera and it still works as good as it did out of the box. Considering the price I have no complaints about this camera at all and have just ordered another one to replace an older wireless pair of non-IP cameras on one side of my residence. I plan on buying at least two more over the next year to phase out some cameras that don't have infrared. There are motion detector lights that make those cameras serviceable but the infrared is much better and much more stealthy. So far I have provided evidence to the police twice and prevented vandalism and theft on my property several times with this camera.
I'm not saying this camera is the equivalent to far more expensive equipment, I'm saying that this camera does a fine job for the use it's put to. I'm very happy with this camera and after using it for a while I have no problem recommending it. It does a great job for what it costs. If you want HD TV cameras go out and spend the money on them, if you want to see what's going on and to be able to record for evidence, this is a great camera.
A note about the color situation that others have mentioned. I don't give a flying fig if the burglar's green shirt looks purple or his black tennis shoes look yellow or any of the rest of that. I want clear pictures of a face and enough of a shot of the clothing to provide a decent description so he can be arrested. If he's wearing a football jersey and the lettering and numbers are legible the colors don't matter. I want to see what they're doing, not make comments on their fashion sense and the color-coordination of their clothes.
Again, I can't recommend the Blue Iris surveillance program strongly enough. The software that comes with any camera in this range is garbage. Blue Iris is only $50 and it makes a world of difference. I can log onto ALL of my cameras from anywhere I can get an internet connection. I have Blue Iris set to send text messages to my cell phone when armed. I have a burglar alarm that uses motion detection and it calls my cell phone too. If I get calls from multiple interior cameras in an alarm state AND the burgler alarm call there's no doubt about an intruder and I can (if internet is available) log onto my system and look to see what's going on while I tell the police which room the bad guy(s) is in, what he's carrying and what he's doing. This camera makes a good and indispensable component in a very good, fairly cheap security system.
Sure, there are better cameras to be had but if you'd rather have 5 cameras with 5 views instead of one expensive camera with one view, well you see where I'm going with that...

Sony Micro Vault Click 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive with Virtual Expander USM8GL Review

Sony Micro Vault Click 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive with Virtual Expander USM8GL
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These new "Micro Vaults" by Sony are fun, attractive, and ultimately, usable flash drives. Sizes range from 1 to 16 Gb, and two formats, standard and "turbo" speed, are available for many of these sizes. The "turbo" version costs more than the equivalently sized "standard" version, but at higher storage sizes. the higher transfer speed of the "tubo" version is desirable because the sheer amount of time required to transfer 16 Gb of data to a stick can be daunting.
The new spring-loaded design of thee units is highly functional. The design keeps the metal USB "prong" protected when not in use, and simply grabbing the device to pull it out of the computer into which it has been placed engages the internal spring, which then retracts the plug automatically upon removal. Build quality feels generally good, particularly considering the fact that Sony has reduced the oftentimes outrageous prices they ask for such accessories. The units have an LED light that flashes through a prismatic lens at the end of the device which is a nice touch to the overall design of the device. I own two of these (a 4 Gb and an 8 Gb version), and am delighted with them both. Check out the 16 Gb versions if you want even more space, but remember the issues surrounding transfer speed and the amount of time required to move that amount of data
Pros
1. Highly functional spring loaded function obviates need for a cap
2. Visually attractive design
3. Transfer speed acceptably fast
4. Available in 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 Gb variants
Cons
1. Price is a bit high compared to other brands
2. "Turbo" edition adds even more cost

Panasonic BL-C230A Wireless Internet Security Camera Review

Panasonic BL-C230A Wireless Internet Security Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted a "nanny cam" to monitor a new nanny, but felt a little uncomfortable about having one of the hidden ones. I felt that having a visible camera known to the nanny was a more respectful approach, although I would need several of them to monitor multiple areas since the locations would be known (and could potentially be avoided).
The Panasonic BL-C230A seemed like a great choice as it is from a major international brand and the reviews of its other wired and wireless cameras indicated that they were well received.
PROS
1. It's cute - It could star as a character in a Japanese cartoon. The nanny cam is a cube about 3" x 3" x 3 1/4" (approximately) and actually looks cute with its single eye and single antenna that looks like an ear. It has a high quality look to it with its high gloss white finish and reminds me of a smaller version of an old Sony Dream Machine alarm clock. It actually looks like it belongs on a nightstand in the bedroom or in a kitchen. It does not look out of place in a home and does not have a "tech" feel to it. I think this is a major plus as I really don't want the nanny to feel like I'm trying to determine if she is a terrorist.
2. Uses Wi-Fi 802.11 b only, g only, b/g both
3. Free lifetime use of Panasonic's "dynamic DNS server" - (more on this later)
4. Easy setup (maybe) - Easy to use paper instructions limited to 3 sheets of paper (of which only 2 are necessary). Sheet 1 shows step-by-step instruction on how to plug the camera into your router with a cable (not supplied and necessary even for wireless in the setup phase) and to connect the power cable. Sheet 2 is the sheet on how to configure the camera using your computer. This is the part that has the potential to be alarming or at least uncomfortable if you're not lucky enough to have UPnP (universal plug and play) on your router. (More on this later.)
5. Great interface with web browsers - Once your device is set up for internet access (more on this later) it has a fairly intuitive interface using Internet Explorer with an Active X control (and also on my Apple Safari although I used my PC with Vista for the camera setup with my Apple Mac for the router changes). There is a viewing screen that allows for 3 resolutions (192x144, 320x240, 640x480). There is a graphical control on the left of the viewing screen with arrows up/down and left/right for tilt and pans. What's nice is there is an auto tilt and auto pan button that will cause the camera to sweep back and forth quickly to give a quick overview of the room. Clicking on a part of the viewing screen will redirect the camera to focus on that spot. There is also multi-camera support for what appears to be up to 16 separate cameras.
6. Fantastic image quality! (It is definitely grainy in low-light, but that's to be expected.)
7. Infrared body heat detection system - does not work if using only browsers but works well using the optional record software install
8. Sound detection - Camera can be set to record not just with body movement triggers but sound triggers.
9. Zoom ability - Only with the optional recording software installed. Does not zoom using browsers only.
10. Audio - (Not on iPhone browser or Google Chrome, however)
11. Mountable - Comes with mounting screws and a safety wire in case it falls from your wall
12. Seems to be Apple compatible (except the initial setup and for video recording which appears to require installation of software different from using just a web browser, although I have not yet tested the video recording feature yet) - Works on my Apple Safari web browser as well as Internet Explorer (with Active X).
The system requirements written on the outside of the Panasonic box seem to indicate only Windows XP SP2 and Vista with Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8 are compatible, but this may be true only for the additional software to set up video recording and the initial camera setup. The browsers seem adequate so far for just watching streaming video and taking still photos as well as maneuvering the camera. I cannot get sound, however, using my Apple iPhone Safari browser or Google Chrome on my PC. Sounds works well on Internet Explorer with Active-X.
CONS
1. Setting the camera up for internet access outside of your home can either be very easy or can be scary for technophobes. Your router must support something called UPnP, Universal Plug and Play for this to work smoothly (I imagine). When I say smoothly, I mean, being able to follow the step-by-step instruction on sheet #2. If you do NOT have a router that supports UPnP then the step-by-step instructions basically tell you to go to the manual on the CD which gives a great introduction on private IP addresses, WAN addresses, static IP addresses, and the usefulness of something called a "dynamic DNS server".
If you are now thinking that you will be over your head by all of this jargon, realize that most routers support UPnP and thus you can follow the step-by-step instructions which use an "automatic" mode in the configuration steps using your web browser. I am using an Apple Airport Base Extreme which does NOT support UPnP. My experience was that it required about 10 extra minutes for me to figure out that I needed to set up something like "port mapping" for my Apple router.
2. Although this is a "wireless" network camera, the description is slightly deceptive. It is wireless only in the networking sense. I should have thought about this more carefully, because what I really expected was a "cordless" camera. This camera has a powercord attached to it, although is "wireless".
3. It seems that there are 2 versions of video recording software that is an optional install. Oddly, the one for single camera support versus multiple (16) camera support are compatible with different Windows versions.
4. I have installed the optional software to my Windows Vista PC to support up to 16 cameras and found that the software works well and is intuitive to use for motion-detection recording. The software appears to be fine for my uses, but you have to pay for a retail version of the software if you want expanded features such as the ability to export their video data files to JPEG or MPEG format, or if you want to use their video backup feature. (I have separate third party software that mirrors my internal hard drives to external drives, so the lack of a built-in video backup feature is not critical to me.) I have not yet tried to see if this optional recording software will work with Bootcamp or VMWare on my Apple Macbook Pro.
TIPS
For those of you who also use an Apple Airport Base Extreme (which does not support UPnP), here's what I had to do:
A. Launch "Airport Utility" software from my Mac then select "Manual Setup"
B. Select "Advanced" from the top tab
C. Select "Port Mapping" from a sub-tab
D. Click on the "+" to add a device to this mapping so that an outside computer can access my device and is thus "mapped"
E. In the drop-down menu select "Personal Web Sharing"
F. Make sure the "public" and "private TCP" ports have the same number such as "80" in the text fields (which they do by default if you selected "Personal Web Sharing"
G. Save and update the modem (requires restart)
H. Go to the installation CD for the Camera and using Internet Explorer to configure the camera, choose "Setup" from the top in the web page
I. Select "Static" and NOT "Automatic Setup" and type in a number such as "80" into the "Port No." field, and save
J. Go to the "Internet" tab of the web page
K. Select "Disable" from the "Auto Port Forwarding (IPv4) option. This is DIFFERENT from the step-by-step instructions given which only work for those who have UPnP.
L. Select "Register with ...........com"
M. Select "Save"
N. You will then be directed to the "..............com" website which is Panasonic's "Dynamic DNS server" which basically will allow your router if it does not support UPnP to work. This website is also how you will be able to view your camera using a web browser outside of your home and local network.CONCLUSION
I am impressed enough to have ordered two additional "wireless" cameras. Its ease of use with the iPhone's standard web browser is simply awesome. My colleagues at work were so impressed by it that they have also placed orders for the device within hours of them seeing for themselves the streaming video on my iPhone and on my desktop at work.
I also suspect that my nanny will not feel like I'm some crazy overly zealous parent either, but that I just want a logical way to check up on the kids. It is a non-intimidating appearing piece of houseware that just seems fun and entertaining while being a legitimate surveillance camera.
I hope this review was of some help!

I have a GE glass cook-top that is used daily. The problem is that I am constantly having to replace the knobs because the letters and numbers wash off after about 3 months. STANLEY TOOLS 68-012 All-in-One Screwdriver

I purchased this "all-in-one" screwdriver to replace an older one.
Things I like about this tool:
- Comfortable handle is rubberized for good grip
- Four heads - a large and small slotted, and a large and small philips
- Each end of the shaft is a slightly different size, so you also get two different sized nut-drivers (this was the reason I replaced my older multi-screwdriver, which had the same size hole on both ends)
- It can be held magnetically to my tool strip, using the steel shaft.
Things I don't like about the tool:
- Nothing!

GLS Audio 6 Post Binding Banana Plug Wall Plate White (6 Posts for 3 Speakers) Review

GLS Audio 6 Post Binding Banana Plug Wall Plate White (6 Posts for 3 Speakers)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The GLS Audio 6 Post Binding Wall Plate provides a Decora style plate for connecting up speaker wires. The bindings provide banana-plug compatible connectors or twist-lock connections. Back side using identical posts. Each post is color coded to east connections.
Strip half an inch of speaker wire, insert into the hole on the side of the post, and then screw down the post. The only negative about this the posts are so close together, you may need plyers to properly tighten the posts unless you have small fingers. If you take the time and expense to use banana plugs, they will work great without issue. Though, I am not sure if the distance between two posts are "standard" or not.
The big advantage of these is that they will fit standard decora wall plates. That means you can remove the single-gang plate from these and install them into a 2+ gang wall plate and box. Other, lower-quality units have a fixed wall plate which prevents you from installing them into a 2-gang wall plate.
As far as quality, they seem relatively sturdy and well built. Posts can be tightened without stripping; plastic components are relatively heavy duty and don't break easily; binding posts seem to be of high quality and will satisfy all but the pickiest audiophiles.

MAXELL UR-120 Blank Audio Cassette Tape (4 pack) Review

MAXELL UR-120 Blank Audio Cassette Tape (4 pack)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Maxell manufactures excellent 120 minute cassette tapes for all purpose general recording. As long as you have the right kind of equipment, these tapes record the sounds of record albums, radio shows, CD-Rs, people talking and just about anything else. These tapes have 120 minutes worth of blank recording tapes on them so there are 60 blank minutes for recording on each side. This is useful when recording one hour radio talk shows, for example.
The tapes allow you hours upon hours of listening enjoyment; and they take up very little room so they're easy to carry around with you.
There is one disappointment; however. These tapes cannot produce the same quality recording reproduction as a digitalized copy would give you. This means that if, hypothetically, you were to copy a CD-R onto another CD-R instead of a Maxell cassette tape, the quality of the sound on the CD-R copy would be sharper and clearer with less background noise than a Maxell cassette tape or any other brand of cassette tape could give you. Moreover, cassette tapes--especially the 120 minute kind with its thinner than usual tape--can break if not handled with care. These shortcomings frustrate me and therefore I will have to take off one star to make this a four star review.
The tapes have small pieces of plastic on the narrow top of each cassette which you can punch out easily so that accidental recording over an existing recording is impossible. If you decide to record over an original recording then you can merely place a small amount of regular tape over the hole. The cassette tape is now ready to record a fresh recording.
Overall, Maxell makes a superior choice when you want reliable cassette tapes to record music, the radio, people talking or anything you wish to record. I have used this brand for years and I cannot think of any major complaints. I highly recommend Maxell 120 minute cassette tapes for you to use when you need to record something onto a tape.

Ok now I'm mad I recently bought this antenna from Home Depot about 2 days ago and paid $14.97, $16.06 w/tax and its on here for $8 what a waste. This antenna is really not worth it. The little circle is supposed to increase reception but didn't do much. After adjusting the antennas & circle in every position imaginable the channels were still not viewable. The picture colors were off & it showed double images. The sad part is I recently moved and couldn't find my old antenna so I decided to go by a new one instead of searching for the old one. I found the old one in a moving bag this morning & 1 of the antennas had been broken off I stuck it back on & that old broken down antenna works better than this one!

I used this to replace a Rockford Fosgate fuse holder because I was upgrading my system to an amperage the fuses couldn't do. Not much to say other than that I liked this very much. It was solid, and fuse has been running strong for a few months now. Cover was a little bit of a pain to get off, but other than that, I have no complaints. These things really should always require tools to remove, so I gave it a positive for the difficulty instead of a negative.

I needed something heavy duty that would cut photographs straight and had great alignment. I am impressed with its build and so far it has been great. My only complaint is that photos can be easily scratched as the space between the plastic lip and the base is very tight. --Lara, [...]

Evoluent VM4 Vertical Mouse Left Handed - The Patented Shape Supports Your Hand Review

Evoluent VM4 Vertical Mouse Left Handed - The Patented Shape Supports Your Hand

I have tried so many different mice, but the Evoluent VM4 one rocks my world. Feather light in the hand, effortless to use, comfortable in every way. (The scroll button could be a little smoother but the bottom thumb button can be used for smooth scrolling.) Highly recommended if you use a mouse all day, every day like I do. NOTE: I have no problems using this mouse as is with my iMac but apparently there is shareware you can get for programming the buttons if you use a Mac.
